The Myanmar Egress is a non profit Organization founded by Myanmar scholars and social workers who have been actively involved in various civil society and political activities in Burma in the last fifteen years.

Myanmar Egress was set up in 2006 by a group of like-minded Myanmar nationalists committed to nation building through positive change in a progressive yet constructive collaboration and working relationship with the government and all interest groups, both local and foreign.

The main objectives of the organization are to promote civil society organizations in the country and to help young people to prepare to face the challenges of political deadlock in the country and globalization in the world. Due to the long political impasse in the country, Myanmar and Myanmar people have been facing a plethora of social, political and economic problems. Regardless of the ongoing socio-political and economic problems in the country, Myanmar is not short of young people who are keen to work for the country. Many young people also understand the need to work together by forming social and professional organizations. However, most young people in Burma lack the necessary knowledge and expertise to do what they wish to or should do for their country. The country’s education system does not prepare young people to meet the needs of the new economic system and to face other challenges. Most young people could not afford to study at private academic and technical training schools in the country, let alone study in foreign countries. Members of Myanmar Egress had individually organized some short training courses and workshops for young people in the last five years. However, due to the constraints of limited resources, only limited number of young people from Yangon and Mandalay were invited to the trainings. In order to be able to undertake and enhance our individual activities in a more systematic manner, we all came together and form Myanmar Egress.

Myanmar Egress is a Non-Partisan, Non-Governmental Organization that is involved in training and capacity building activities in Yangon. We provide civic education and skills training to both the public and private sectors and draw on the support of professional volunteers for our activities. We also draw on funding from external agencies to help defray the cost of our activities especially the civic education.

Myanmar Egress is currently involved in disaster relief operations in severely damaged 4 townships in the Delta region. In so doing, Myanmar Egress has collaborated with some business companies that were granted permission by the authorities to undertake the rescue and relief work in several storm-hit areas in the delta. Myanmar Egress is engaging in all these disaster relief activities under the name of NARGIS ACTION GROUP MYANMAR. Some 100 of our trainees have availed themselves for such work with some training from Eco-Dev and Action Aid. We would like to extend our operations to more extended population as much as we can. We are one of the few locally based organizations involved in such operations. At present, we are involved in the delivery of food, drinking water, medicines and shelter materials. Besides, we are concurrently extending our efforts to rebuild the primary health care services and schools in these areas. We would like to extend the work to cover cleaning and the erection of temporary shelters as well.

If you are a public or private funding agency looking for a fast and easy way to deliver assistance to the worst affected delta areas in Myanmar, please contact us immediately. Eyewitness reports speak of rotting corpses, the outbreak of water borne diseases and rising numbers of desperate survivors awaiting assistance. We estimated that there are 500,000 victims who needed immediate attention. Please help us help them without delay.
